Gentrification Collection
Gentrification within Brick Lane in London was the concept for this MA project. I decided to create a garment that represented the growth of cites from the Victorian era where separation within cities increased. I chose to create a Victorian-style blazer, with big bold collaged textile designs, combining images from the lower class and upper-class areas of Brick Lane. I chose fabric that was popular in the Victorian era such as Cotton Twill and Marble Velvet. I used the cotton fabric as a way to portray the lower class and the velvet to represent the upper class. The contrast of the materials is to show separation caused by gentrification which can create division between the lower and upper class.
